Silver Awards for The Oakdale & Penmaen Partnership

The Oakdale & Penmaen Community Partnership won two silver awards in the 2019 Be Proud of Your Community awards ceremony presented by the Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations (GAVO) on 06 November 2019. 

Taking Care of your Community


Our Partnership won a silver award for the category; 'Taking Care of your Community', which recognizes a wide variety of community improvement projects including wildlife gardens at the three schools, liaison over renovation of the former Oakdale Hotel, and establishment of local teams to clean up the pavements and public spaces.

Remembering Them


The Parnership won a second silver award for; 'Remembering Them', which was for the War Memorial gardens, the printed booklet, website, and especially - all of the research dedicated to commemorate and acknowledge the fallen men from Oakdale in World War I. 

Additional Information

The annual Gwent Awards are held to recognise extraordinary people and outstanding organisations who volunteer their time to make a positive contribution to their local community. 

GAVO encourages people of all ages to develop community-specific programs and activities which showcase their pride in where they live. The six categories of GAVO competition cover a wide range of different elements to community life and wellbeing:

  • Go Wildlife!
  • Remembering Them
  • Taking Care of your Community
  • Saving the Planet
  • Primary Schools
  • My Favourite Place (for 11-25 year olds)

Representatives of TOPP collected the awards at a presentation ceremony held in Llanhilleth Miners' Institute. The two plaques are now on display in the Oakdale Community Centre.
