On Friday November 30th our village Christmas lights were switched on. This has come about through the generosity of residents and others in our community.
Victoria Williams, sales director at Persimmon Homes East Wales, said: “We’re delighted to help spread some Christmas cheer with these donations. “We’ve had a very successful year and it’s great to be able to give something back to groups in the areas in which we’re building.”
Roger Evans, of the Oakdale & Penmaen Community Partnership, said: “This is tremendous news, what a boost. We are committed to improving the quality of life in Oakdale, Penmaen and Woodfieldside. We’ve been working hard to raise money for the village’s Christmas lights display, and this money will take us over our £1,500 target."
Another big thank you to everyone who supported this year's funding appeal for the Christmas lights in the Square. We raised a total of £1857.96 from collection boxes in business premises around the Square.
Additionally, generous donations from General Dynamics, Oakdale Rugby Club, the Community Centre, the Ladies Thursday Class, the Chinese Takeaway, TC Autos, Bungalow Club contributed to the total cost.
The cost to purchase 2 new LED fittings and erect all the lights came to £1460.18. The remaining £397.78 will go towards funding the 2019 display.
